Former Kumon Student Becomes Local Education Entrepreneur

Kumon of Waimea is Now Accepting New Enrollments

– When La’akea Bertelmann had to abruptly switch schools as a child, she was left to fill a large language gap in a short amount of time. Her parents enrolled her in the Kumon Math and Reading Program to help, which not only brought her up to speed, but also allowed her to advance beyond all expectations.

Now an adult, Bertelmann never forgot the experience. As a mom to a young son, her goal was to introduce him to the program as early as possible to allow him to reach his full potential. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a Kumon Center within an hour of her small community. Bertelmann decided to change that, and as the new owner and Instructor of Kumon of Waimea, she hopes to have the same impact on her future students that her former Instructor had on her.
